Gone are the days when clients were told to arrive with extremely dirty hair for their color appointments. Modern hair color formulas are much gentler than they used to be, meaning there's no need for excessive oil an build up to protect the scalp. In fact, excessively dirty hair can create an uneven canvas, affecting how the color processes and making it more difficult to achieve the best results.
For the ideal balance, I recommend washing your hair about two days before your appointment - this allows your scalp's natural oils to provide a light protective barrier without excess build up interfering with the color. Avoid washing it on the day of your appointment, as freshly washed hair can make the scalp more sensitive.
Clean (but not freshly washed) hair is not only better for the coloring process but also makes for a more pleasant experience for both you and me.
If you have a hair color appointment coming up - especially one involving bleach - it's essential to avoid swimming in chlorine or salt water for at least a week before your appointment. Both chlorine and salt can strip moisture from the hair, leaving it dry, brittle, and more prone to uneven color results. Chlorine, in particular, can create unwanted chemical reactions with hair color, leading to unpredictable tones or even compromising the integrity of your hair.
For best and safest results, make sure your hair is free from chlorine and salt water build up before your appointment. If you've recently been swimming, a clarifying treatment may be needed to remove any residue. Healthy, well-prepped hair ensures even color absorption and a stunning, long lasting result.
Post-Color Maintenance
To keep your color looking fresh and vibrant, its just as important to avoid chlorine and salt water after your appointment. Both can strip or alter your color, causing fading, brassiness, or even unwanted greenish tones in lighter shades. Additionally, chemically treated hair is more porous, meaning it absorbs chlorine and salt water more easily, leading to dryness and damage over time.
If swimming is unavoidable, protect your hair by wetting it with fresh water beforehand, and apply a leave in conditioner or protective oil. Rinsing thoroughly and using a color-safe, hydrating shampoo afterward will also help maintain the integrity of your hair color.
Taking these precautions ensures your color stays vibrant, your hair stays healthy, and you get the longest-lasting results from your appointment!
If you're booked in for a full balayage, blonding service, or color correction, be prepared for a longer appointment - these services can take anywhere between 4-8+ hours depending on your hair and the desired result. Unlike the old days of simple two-step color, modern techniques involve multiple steps, precision, and attention to detail to create seamless, long-lasting results.
To ensure a smooth and stress-free experience, please be mindful not to schedule anything immediately after your appointment if you know you're booked in for a long service. Rushing or feeling pressured for time can add unnecessary stress to both you and me, and I want to ensure your hair gets the time and care it deserves.
For your comfort, feel free to bring snacks, use your food delivery appts, or bring a book, tablet, or anything else to keep you entertained. While we have magazines in store as well as a range of teas, coffee and cold beverages. you're more than welcome to bring an iPad, catch up on shows, or just relax however you like.
I want your experience to be as enjoyable and as stress-free as possible - so come prepared, get comfortable and enjoy the process while I take care of the rest.
Due to the nature of my work, including travelling to locations and limited availability, last-minute cancellations can be highly inconvenient. To ensure fairness and respect for my time, a 50% cancellation fee will apply to any appointments canceled within 7 days of the scheduled service.
I appreciate your understanding and consideration in providing as much notice as possible if you need to reschedule. This allows me to manage my bookings effectively and offer appointments to other clients. Thankyou for your support and cooperation.
I always appreciate when clients bring inspiration photos - it helps give a visual reference for the look they're hoping to achieve. However, every head of hair is different and achieving the perfect result requires more than just a picture. That's why we have a thorough consultation before every appointment to ensure we're on the same page about your hair goals, what's achievable, and the best approach for your hair type, condition and lifestyle.
This in-depth discussion allows us to tailor the process specifically to you, ensuring realistic expectations and beautiful, long-lasting results. Your satisfaction is my top priority, and a great consultation is the foundation for great hair.
When coming to your appointment, it's important to be mindful of what you wear to ensure a smooth and comfortable experience.
Turtlenecks, hoodies, and white clothing aren't the best choices for a salon visit. Turtlenecks/high necks and hoodies can make it difficult to move around during the service, and can get in the way or get covered in product. White clothes are especially tricky, as they can easily get stained from hair color or product splashes.
For your comfort and to avoid any mishaps, I recommend wearing something comfortable and easy to move in. While I've never stained anyone's clothes, wearing darker colors and practical attire will give you peace of mind and ensure a more relaxed experience.
While I always cleanse the face before starting your makeup application, coming in with clean, makeup-free skin allows me to work with the best possible canvas. Clean skin ensures that your makeup adheres properly and lasts longer, without interference from leftover oils, dirt, or previous products. It also helps me apply products more evenly, resulting in a smoother, more flawless finish.
That said, it's best not to do any complex skincare right before your appointment. Avoid layering heavy moisturizers or treatments, as they can create a slippery surface that may cause makeup to slide off and not set properly. A simple cleanse is all you need to get best results - this allows me to create the canvas that works best for my products and focus on enhancing your natural beauty without any stress or distractions!
For the best results during your tints and lash lifts, I recommend not wearing mascara to your appointment. Mascara can irritate the eyes before the service during the removal process and may cause complications during the treatment. Additionally, it can eat into your appointment time, as it takes extra time to properly remove the mascara before we begin. Coming in with clean, mascara-free lashes ensures a smoother, more efficient service and helps avoid any potential issues, so I can focus on giving you the perfect lashes.
